The Ashe County Little Theatre Announces 2017 Season

The Ashe County Little Theatre (ACLT) is an all-volunteer community based theatre group who make their home in the Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson. Since 1972, ACLT has produced three to four plays a year.  In 2017, the group will present four productions.  They’re many ways for the community to become involved.

Proof, April 7-9

“Proof” will be the first production. Written by David Auburn, Proof is the story of a young woman named Catherine. She is the daughter of Robert, a brilliant mathematician, who misplaces both his brilliance and his sanity in his later years. Catherine, a budding mathematician herself, has given up her schooling and her most creatively productive years in order to take care of her father. The play opens after the death of Robert as Catherine struggles with her possible inheritance: her father’s mental illness. Complicating matters are one of her father’s ex-students who wants to search through his papers and her estranged sister who shows up to help settle his affairs.

Directed by Melissa Edmondson, Produced by Bobbi Jo Scott

Cast includes: Cassondra Greer, Ike Smith, Abby Suggs and Mark Suggs

Willie Wonka, the Musical
June 22-26

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka follows enigmatic candy manufacturer, Willy Wonka, as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory… or suffer the consequences.
